The 55th annual ceremony took place on Friday 7th March at The Winter Gardens in Blackpool hosted by architect, writer and TV presenter George Clarke and Civic Trust Awards Managing Director Malcolm Hankey.

"Located in a prominent position on the top of Harold Hill, the buildings warm textured brickwork and simply detailed full-height window openings follow the contours of the hill and sits well in the surrounding Green Belt landscape. Classrooms are arranged to create a physical and intellectual journey for pupils, rising up and around the building in chronological order to the sixth form accommodation, which is located at the highest point of the school. The thoroughly well conceived design gives a feeling of quality, calmness and permanence; creating a school that engenders local pride, enhances the community and raises educational aspirations in the area for all."
The Civic Trust Awards scheme was established in 1959 to recognise the very best in architecture, design, planning, landscape and public art. Awards are given to projects that demonstrate high quality architecture or design, have demonstrated sustainability, are accessible to all users and have made a positive cultural, social or economic contribution to the local community.
